Connecticut Designates May as "Brain Tumor Awareness Month"

Building on the national effort first established by the National Brain Tumor Society and Congressional resolutions in 2008, the Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance (CTBTA) has successfully led the charge to have May officially recognized as “Brain Tumor Awareness Month” in Connecticut.

A gubernatorial proclamation designating May as Brain Tumor Awareness Month in the State of Connecticut has been received and will be announced on the floors of the State House and Senate on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 and CTBTA CEO, Christopher Cusano, will be introduced by the Public Health Committee co-chairs, Representative Cristin McCarthey Vahey and Senator Saud Anwar, as well as ranking member Representative Nicole Klarides-Ditria and Senator Jeff Gordon during proceedings in both chambers.

“This is a truly momentous occasion for the CTBTA and the broader brain tumor community,” said Cusano. “This proclamation highlights the groundbreaking research conducted at institutions across our state, the dedicated care provided to patients battling brain tumors, and the critical need to raise public awareness about the impact of these diagnoses on individuals and families. Furthermore, we have supported legislation emerging from the Government, Administration, and Elections Committee to officially codify May as 'Brain Tumor Awareness Month' in Connecticut.”

CTBTA board members and staff will be present at the Capitol on May 7th to meet with legislators, and members of the public are encouraged to join them in advocating for increased awareness and funding to support brain tumor research and the search for a cure.
