Because Laughter Is the Best MedicineJuly 15, 2014
Three years ago, Susan Shimkus Lemkuil and David Lemkuil, Directors on the CTBTA's Board, created the comedy night, "Laughter on the Brain," with the help of Lena Sidoti and Feliks Viner from Presenting Sponsor, First World Mortgage, as a fun fundraising and brain tumor awareness opportunity for the CTBTA. The event soon became a fan favorite. This year's Laughter event, held on May 22, 2014, celebrated laughter as "the best medicine" and was dedicated to the memory of the CTBTA's dear friend, Nancy Wasserman.
Patients, caregivers, supporters, and community members came together to share many laughs at the Pond House Grille in Glastonbury, Connecticut, all while raising funds to support brain tumor patients and their families. Lindsay Wasserman, a Bolton High School senior and daughter of Neal and the late Nancy Wasserman, spoke beautifully about how her family's journey through her mother's brain tumor diagnosis and treatment, and the positivity of CTBTA President, Tracey Gamer-Fanning, inspired her to raise funds and awareness for the cause. Bob Shultz, President and Founding Partner of AIX Group, was recognized for AIX's longstanding commitment to the CTBTA as its largest sponsor. Then guests were treated to three different comedians, capped by a dessert bar that featured Bananas Foster, chef-prepared right before the patrons.
The 3rd Annual "Laughter on the Brain" was one of our most successful events to date, raising $20,000 for brain tumor research and patient assistance, and bringing participation among brain tumor patients and caregivers to a record level for any CTBTA event.
