4th Annual Horse Event Entertains, Inspires, and Shows Support for Brain Tumor Patients.

Well-A-Way 2012

On September 8, 2012, the Well-a-Way Farm hosted its 4th Annual Horse and Tent Event to benefit the CTBTA, under the direction of CTBTA Board Member, Stacey Mairano. The rain clouds parted to make for a beautiful setting at the farm, welcoming guests who enjoyed this year's Hunter Derby main event, while sipping cocktails and sampling delicious gourmet offerings. In summing up the mood of this very special event, Adria Giordano, Assistant Vice President of Development at Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, said it best: "Despite the rain and stormy clouds, the sun was definitely shining on the CTBTA and guests!"

Emcee, Heather Lombardo, narrated the majestic equestrian event, explaining the finer points of horse jumping to the crowd, while USEF A-rated Kristen Guadagnino officiated. Then white balloons floated into the evening sky in memory of the lives of those who remind us why our work at the CTBTA is so important. But perhaps the most inspiring moment of the night came when young equestrian, Tessa Brown, rode in tribute to the evening's special guest, Morgan Platt, and then presented her with a bouquet of friendship and support. The CTBTA was honored to have Dr. Nathan Hagstrom, Director of Hematology/Oncology at Connecticut Children's, speak about the incredible work of those who specialize in the treatment of pediatric brain tumors and about the courage of Morgan Platt, who defines how to live life to the fullest in spite of a brain tumor. Dr. Hagstrom's remarks were punctuated by a meaningful hug shared by Morgan and CTBTA President and six-year survivor, Tracey Gamer-Fanning.

The money raised at this year's event will support several Patient Assistance Funds at area hospitals to help ease the burden of expenses for brain tumor patients in need. The CTBTA is grateful to the sponsors who made the 2012 Well-A-Way Horse Event possible: The Suraci Family, Hartford Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Yale School of Medicine, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Jefferson Radiology, New Country BMW, and AIX Group.
