While many kids spend their summer vacation looking for ways to get in their last bit of fun before school begins, four remarkable girls used part of their vacation on Cape Cod this August to raise money and awareness for the Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance, and they had fun along the way.
Eve and Maris Cathcart of Avon, Connecticut, along with Morgan Fabrizio Atkinson from New Hampshire and Lauren McCabe from Massachusetts, set up a lemonade and lollipop stand at Ferry Landing in Falmouth, Massachusetts this summer to honor their friend, Morgan Platt, also of Avon, Connecticut. Morgan is a courageous eight-year-old girl who is battling a brain tumor and inspiring others to reach out for a good cause. (See "From Dire Diagnosis Comes Do-Rags, Strength, and Wisdom from an 8-Year-Old").
The girls raised $350.00 for the CTBTA in honor of Morgan and her team of doctors at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and their parents matched the donations they collected. The Cape Cod lemonade and lollipop stand is just one of many recent gestures made to show Morgan her large community of support. In fact, another lemonade stand held in her neighborhood this August raised an additional $250.00 for the CTBTA, which the CTBTA acknowledged with a tee-sign in Morgan's honor at its annual golf tournament in September. Morgan continues to teach us all how to make lemonade...and lollipops out of life's challenges.
